Summer School in Constitutional Law (May-July 2025) in Hamburg

dr hab. Michał Bernaczyk prof. UWr - 17 February, 2025 - 11:01

The EDELNet Partnership is delighted to announce that we are inviting applications to the annual EDELNet LL.B. Summer School. The online phase of the program will start in spring 2025 and the face-to-face part will take place this year in Hamburg (Germany) from 14th to 18th July 2025.

As in previous years, 30-40 students from the FernUniversität Hagen (Germany), the Open Universiteit (Netherlands), UNED (Spain), Open University (UK) and University of Wroclaw (Poland) will meet at a wonderful location in the EU and have the opportunity to work together in a series of activating seminars and simulations designed to offer a high quality learning experience and gain insight into legislative processes, rule of law operations and other vital aspects of legal systems in liberal democracies. In addition, participants will get a valuable chance to have a meaningful exchange with students and instructors from other European jurisdictions in an institutionally supportive and intellectually challenging environment. Last but not least, you will be enjoying Hamburg’s summer flair: https://www.hamburg-travel.com/blog/summer-in-hamburg-festivals-street-parties-local-culture/

The programme begins with an online preparatory phase in April during which participants are expected to take a few short online courses. Structured around the professional processing of 3 hypothetical case simulations, the face-to-face part of the programme will focus on the performance of legal professional tasks to help students become aware of the intricacies of the real operation of law in practice and learn how to argue using the language of the law in different legal contexts. In the course of the programme you will receive well-structured and intensive training not only in legal matters, but also in soft skills such as academic debate, legal English, intercultural communication and team work.

We have allocated ten (10) spots for students from the University of Wrocław.  Successful applicants are expected to have a good command of English. Students are expected to make their own accommodation in Hamburg and travel arrangements, however we may provide financial support under Erasmus Blended Intensive Program. In this very case, our early estimates show that overall scholarship amount may range from 706 € to 970 € per person. If you wish to receive this scholarship, please contact me or our local coordinator. I regret to inform you that first-year students are not eligible for the Erasmus scholarship. In such cases, they can participate in the summer school, but this means covering the costs themselves.

Students interested in participating should submit to me:

- a motivation letter in English,
- information about their grade point average, and
- a document confirming their English language proficiency. If the latter is unavailable, please declare your willingness to attend a recruitment interview with me in English.

Applicants may be invited to meet me stationery during my office hours in room #412A at Uniwersytecka St. 22/26 (building "A", 4th floor, Chair of Constitutional Law).

All queries on the Summer School of Constitutional Law and financial support will be addressed by prof. Michal Bernaczyk. Feel free to make inquiries by MsTeams or e-mail (michal.bernaczykatuwr.edu.pl).
