Invitation to an open lecture by dr Edvīns Danovskis of the University of Latvia “The concept of state liability in Latvian administrative law” (7 March 2023, start at: 16:00, MS TEAMS)

Department of the Public Administration System of the Institute of Administrative Sciences at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics cordially invites you to the open lecture by dr Edvīns Danovskis “The concept of state liability in Latvian administrative law”.
The liability of state institutions for various acts of public power is an issue whose practical importance has grown over the past twenty years in European legal space, including Latvia. The content of the lecture consists of an overview of the concept of state liability in Latvia: legal acts that can be the basis of state liability (administrative acts, torts of public law, illegal laws, and other illegal acts of public power), manifestations of state liability and their application (obligation to compensate losses and non-material damage, etc.), as well as problems of preconditions of state responsibility.
Dr Edvīns Danovskis is an assistant professor at the University of Latvia (Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law of the Faculty of Law). His scientific work in the field of administrative law has been devoted in particular to the concept of effective legal remedies in administrative procedure law, the concept of public service, administrative offence law and the distinction of public and private legal relationships. The results of research have been published in five books and more than 70 articles. In addition to his academic work, he is senior legal advisor to the Legal Office of the Parliament of Latvia, giving impartial opinions regarding laws submitted to the Parliament in the field of administrative law.

The lecture will take place online via MS Teams on 7 March 2023 (Tuesday), from 16:00 to 17:30.
